Thanksgiving is just around the corner. More than almost any other holiday,Thanksgiving dinner, table decorations and guest lists are fussed and fretted over from the first day of November until the moment the turkey hits the dinner table. It's undoubtedly one of the biggest holidays of the year. It's a day of family and friends gathering together for a large meal and giving thanks.  Historically, Thanksgiving began as a tradition of celebrating the harvest of the year. We all are thoroughly familiar with the story of the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag and their first meal together in 1621 in Plymouth, MA. My family always celebrates with a large...

Silver accent pieces add a bit of glamour.  TIP: Whether you're decorating for fun, flirtation or romance, keep the ambiance soft and flirty. Instead of giving candy, consider a love coupon.       ...

It’s Carnival time and after the super bowl extravaganza New Orleans is just one big party!  February 12th , known as “Fat Tuesday”, is the last day of feasting before lent.  A very popular food around this time of year is the king cake. It is a ring of twisted bread, similar to brioche that is decorated with icing and colored sugar. The sugar is tinted in the three traditional Mardi gras colors: Purple which represents Justice, Green for Faith and Gold for Power.   On my king cake table I used a 54” purple table cover, a yellow table skirt...

Winter Rainforest Party

January is such a dreary month for so many of us. In place of winter’s bare trees and shades of brown, why not have a lush green rain forest-themed party? There is no better time of year for the color green to enhance our sense of well-being.  A recent trip to Puerto Rico inspired the idea. I visited the El Yunque National Forest. It  is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S national forest system.  It rains 200 inches a year. The setting is lush with canopies of trees, giant ferns, bamboo groves, and beautiful waterfalls.  My rain forest themed...
